Inflicted ano-genital injuries in children : Physical abuse or sexual abuse?

Dawn Elder1.

Abstract

The ano-genital findings of two young children who died as a result of inflicted head injury are reported. These injuries were severe enough to lead to an initial suspicion that sexual abuse had also occurred as part of the fatal assault. When further history was available, the injuries were found to be the result of inflicted physical injury.
