Two-Week Schedule Template for Clinical Performance Examination Education
| Day | Contents |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | |
| Lecture 1 | Introduction of CPX and its evaluation criteria and how to make cases. |
| CPX case is given to each student as an assignment. | |
| Day 2 | |
| CPX practice 1 | Practice with facilitator and feedback. |
| Lecture 2 | Communication: listening courteously, reflection, how to ask difficult questions, how to break bad news. |
| Day 3 | |
| CPX practice 2 | Practice without facilitator. |
| Lecture 3 | Nonverbal communication: attire, accessories, facial expression, eye contact, body language. |
| Day 4 | |
| CPX practice 3 | Practice with facilitator and feedback. |
| Marking checklist by the professor and the students except two students act as SP and doctor. | |
| Evaluation | Evaluating the group activity, satisfaction. |
| Evaluating inter-correlation of CPX checklist marked by the professor and students. |
SP: Standardized patient, CPX: Clinical performance examination.

Inter-Correlation of CPX Checklist Scores
| Students | Professor | Cronbach’s α | |
|---|---|---|---|
| History taking | 84.1 (55.6~100.0) | 88.3 (55.6~100.0) | 0.790 |
| Physical examination | 88.8 (50.0~100.0) | 87.3 (33.3~100.0) | 0.751 |

| Total score | 81.2 (53.6~95.6) | 78.7 (38.1~97.5) | 0.821 |
Values are presented as median (range).
CPX: Clinical performance examination.
Inter-Correlation of Evaluation
| Self | Peer | Cronbach’s α | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inter-correlation between peer evaluations and self-evaluation | 82.2 (55.6~97.8) | 81.9 (63.3~85.6) | 0.319 |
Values are presented as median (range).
Comparison between Six Components of Action Learning and CPX
| Six components | Action learning | CPX |
|---|---|---|
| The problem | Significant and urgent project, challenge, opportunity, issue or task | CPX, especially PPI |
| The group | Composed of 4~8 diverse members with various perspectives and fresh viewpoints | Group composed of 5~6 students for clinical practice |
| Questions and reflection | Insightful questioning and reflective listening build group cohesiveness, generate innovative and systems thinking, and enhance learning results | Feedback during CPX practices, communication with patient |
| Action strategies | The group must either have the power to take action, or be assured that its recommendations will be implemented | Repeated group practices and feedback |
| Individual, team and organizational learning | An equal commitment to learning is also essential for the success of action learning | Making CPX case, feedback during CPX practices, monitoring one’s own video of CPX |
| The coach | The coach helps group members reflect on how they listen or how they may have reframed the problem | Professor |
CPX: Clinical performance examination, PPI: Patient-physician interaction.
