Fifty consecutive patients with large gland prostatic hypertrophy, requiring open prostatectomy, were analyzed retrospectively with regard to relationship to the subsequent development of ischemic heart disease. A significant increase in the development of progressive ischemic heart disease and sudden death was found in these patients when compared with two control groups.
