Abstract
OPINION STATEMENT: The most important tools are the eye and the brain. A detailed white-light high-resolution examination and ability to recognize subtle lesions provide the foundation of the ability to detect lesions in the gastrointestinal tract. Novel technologies are now available to provide additional information with the goals of detection, delineation, or classification often with a focus on neoplasia in the gastrointestinal tract. The observer using these new tools must still recognize, interpret, and then make a clinically relevant conclusion. Therefore, the assessment of these tools may focus on both the technical feasibility to use the respective equipment to obtain an image and then also the associated cognitive-based criteria for image interpretation.Entities:
