*central obesity (WC ≥90 cm or BMI >30 kg/m2 in male, WC ≥80 cm or BMI >30 kg/m2 in female), †raised TG ≥150 mg/dL or being treated, ‡reduced HDL (≤40 mg/dL in male, ≤50 mg/dL in female or being treated), §raised BP (SBP ≥130 mmHg or DBP ≥85 mmHg or being treated), ∥raised FPG ≥100 mg/dL or previous diagnosed type 2 diabetes, ¶person with the metabolic syndrome must have central obesity plus any two of the four factors (FPG ≥100 mg/dL or previously diagnosed type 2 diabetes, TG ≥150 mg or being treated, reduced HDL (<40 mg/dL in male, <50 mg/dL in female) or being treated, and raised BP (SBP ≥130 mmHg or DBP ≥85 mmHg) or being treated.
