Abstract
BACKGROUND: Comprehensive geriatric assessment including cognitive assessment results in better outcomes and quality of life through facilitating access to support and further care. Timing of assessment: percentage of all patients assessed on admission (11/50) = 22%; percentage of all patients assessed at some point (28/50) = 56%; percentage of assessments completed that were done on admission (11/28) = 39.3%.
Test completion: nurses (8/28) = 28.6%; doctors (19/28) = 67.9%; other (1/28) = 3.6%.
Dementia status: patients without an existing diagnosis who received a new diagnosis following assessment (7/19) = 36.8%; patients without an existing diagnosis who received a new diagnosis without assessment (1/22) = 4.5%.
