Figure 1Definition of measurement of parotid gland shift and transverse diameter. DLM represents the distance between the lateral aspects of the parotid gland and the midline on the most superior slice with the odontoid process just still visible. DMM represents the distance between the medial edge of the parotid gland to the midline on the most superior slice with the odontoid process just still visible. The transverse diameter of the nasopharyngeal level (D1) represents the distance between the intersection points on both sides of skin edges, at the level of the odontoid process. It is a posterior marginal connection for the bilateral mandibular angle [10].
