Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the constituents with antioxidant activities from alcalase hydrolysate of Arca subcrenata.
METHODS: The consecutive chromatographic methods were employed, including ion-exchange chromatography, gel filtration chromatography, and reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). The amino acid sequences of the purified antioxidant peptides were determined by automated Edman degradation.
RESULTS: Under the guidance of the assay of scavenging free radicals, two peptides with antioxidant activities, termed as A-Bg1 and A-Bh, were isolated and purified from the alcalase hydrolysate of Arca subcrenata.
CONCLUSION: Constituents from the hydrolysate of Arca subcrenata might be a new potential resource of antioxidants.
