Abstract
Most major psychiatric illnesses are resistant to psychotropic drugs that are approved for use during pregnancy. Maternal illness and related medications may have adverse impacts on the foetus. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) might be an effective and safe option for treating several psychiatric disorders in pregnant women. This study evaluates the use of ECT for treating major psychoses during pregnancy and presents an assessment of risks faced by both mother and foetus. Based on our analysis we present recommendations for safe and effective treatment of psychiatric diseases via ECT in pregnant women.Entities:
