Genital herpes infections.

Abstract

Genital herpes infections can be diagnosed by clinical criteria, but in most cases laboratory methods are superior. This article reviews the current methods available for detection of herpes simplex virus and for documenting infection by serology. The applicability and limitations of these methods are discussed.
