In the Pilp (mid cell, lower panel), the decrease in Piwi allows TE transcription, which has two consequences on the TE/host relationship (red arrows): (1) an increased pool of piRNAs produced by the ping-pong mechanism and (2) increased transposition cycles leading to neo-TE insertions.
