The effect of acetylcholine on hypocotyl elongation in soybean.

I Mukherjee1.

Abstract

Acetylcholine (Ach) and gibberellic acid (GA3) treatment of germinating seeds stimulated hypocotyl elongation in the soybean cultivar Otootan. Ethrel which evolves ethylene in plant tissues, markedly inhibited hypocotyl elongation. Ethrel also inhibited the Ach- and GA3-induced stimulation of hypocotyl elongation. The effects of Ach and GA3 were not additive.
