Abstract
Endophthalmitis following pars plana vitrectomy is a very uncommon cause of endophthalmitis. Cases reported over the last decade show a decrease in incidence over time. To optimize visual outcome, early diagnosis and treatment are essential. In this review we report a summary of the incidence of endophthalmitis following vitrectomy, various risk factors for their occurrence, the microbiological profile and the visual outcomes post treatment.Entities:

Figure 1Anterior segment photograph of a patient with endophthalmitis following pars plana vitrectomy operated for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Cultures were positive for Bacillus cereus. Visual acuity was light perception after treatment.
