Infectious disease, fever, and the immune response.

R B Ashman1, A Müllbacher.

Abstract

Fever is a characteristic response to infection in almost all vertebrates. Its function appears to be the restriction of infectious agents' replication and the enhancement of host resistance. Here Bob Ashman and Arno Müllbacher discuss fever and examine the effects of raised temperature on aspects of the immune response.
