[Geragogic challenge of very old age].

B Bertermann1.

Abstract

In an ageing society one central aim is to promote participation of older people. The question is to what extent the oldest old are included in this discourse. The increase in the number of the oldest old emphasizes the importance of their social integration and participation. This article is based on a literature analysis and includes a geragogic point of view. It presents empirical results, discusses the concept of active ageing for the oldest old and provides research perspectives and recommendations for geragogic practice.
