Complications associated with surgery of the extrahepatic biliary system.

D T Matthiesen1.

Abstract

Diseases that lead to the need for surgery of the extrahepatic biliary system in dogs and cats are mainly acquired diseases, and these include obstructive biliary disease, traumatic injury, and cholecystitis. The main goal of surgery is to achieve an intact, patent biliary system while minimizing intra- and postoperative complications.
