In this issue of JCHIMP, there are 15 papers, the most in our 15 issues to date. We are extremely grateful for the growing JCHIMP support from readers and authors.Leading off is an insightful perspective on the challenges to women looking toward careers in academic medicine while balancing personal priorities (1). There is a systematic analysis of the literature regarding management of hypertensive crises in hemodialysis patients (2). The principal authors in these papers were medical students. There is a paper on patient safety in a community hospital residency program (3). The author will be the editor of our newly minted Patient Safety Column. Like our other columns, we expect about three papers a year. We invite submissions in this area. An important retrospective study on C. difficile outcomes clarifies the reliability of new consensus standards (4). A medical education paper on the evaluations of PG3 chief residents indicates greater value in junior resident opinions than by senior residents (5). Our second JCHIMP history of medicine paper, authored by the editor, explores the fascinating origins of important medical eponyms (6).Case reports, a JCHIMP focus, is well represented with six full reports: clinically significant zinc-deficiency (7); low-pressure pericardial tamponade masquerading as sepsis until diagnosed by bedside ultrasound (8); aspiration pneumonia complicating bariatric surgery (9); massive pituitary adenoma (10); and primary cardiac sarcoma (11). There is a marvelous report on a dramatic scenario experienced by a new intern en route to a US internal medicine residency (12).In addition, our radiology column is represented by a case of recurrent neurocysticercosis (13). And there are two image reports – a blue leg (14) and a red ear (15).
