Abstract
While Dama square dance is gaining popularity in China, especially with middle-aged and older-adult women-hence the "Dama" (Chinese for "big mamas") moniker-there have been conflicts due to the loud music played for the activity. After a brief explanation of Dama square dance and a description of the context of the conflicts, this commentary shares some thoughts on the issues raised, reviews the negative impact and regulation of noise, and calls for creating more public green space in Chinese cities and for developing a new music delivery system that could eliminate public music noise for group physical activities.Entities:
