Photodynamic therapy: from the beginning.

D Kessel1.

Abstract

Photodynamic therapy relates to the use of drugs + light for treatment of neoplasia, macular degeneration and atherosclerotic plaque. This field has a long history with recent improvements in drug development and light sources promoting clinical approaches. This summary describes recent progress along with an indication of current lines of research.
