Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS: A revised classification system for renal dysfunction in patients with cirrhosis was proposed by the Acute Dialysis Quality Initiative and the International Ascites Club Working Group in 2011. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of renal dysfunction according to the criteria in this proposal.Entities:

Proposed diagnostic criteria for kidney dysfunction in cirrhosis21
Both the acute deterioration in renal function and background chronic renal dysfunction can be functional or structural in nature.
HRS, hepatorenal syndrome; MDRD6, Modification of Diet in Renal Disease formula calculated using six variables of serum creatinine, age, gender, albumin, blood urea nitrogen and whether or not the patient is African-American.

Baseline characteristics
NAFLD, Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease; NASH, Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis; eGFR, estimated glomerular filtration rate (calculated by MDRD6 formula).
*Mean ± SD.
Rate of renal dysfunction classified by cirrhosis severity according to the Child-Pugh classification
AKI, acute kidney injury; CKD, chronic kidney disease.
Type and cause of renal dysfunction
Parenthetical values are percentages.
IgAN, IgA nephropathy; HBV associated GN, Hepatitis B virus associated glomerulonephritis; HRS type 1, hepatorenal syndrome type 1; DM, diabetes mellitus; HTN, Hypertension; ESRD, end stage renal disease; HRS type 2, hepatorenal syndrome type 2.
Rates of hospital mortality and cause of death
