Abstract
BACKGROUND: Opioids have been used for the management of pain and coadministration of two opioids may induce synergism. In a model of tonic pain, the acetic acid writhing test and in a phasic model, the hot plate, the antinociceptive interaction between fentanyl, methadone, morphine, and tramadol was evaluated.Entities:

Figure 1Dose–response curves for the antinociceptive activity in the writhing test of mice induced by fentanyl, methadone, morphine and tramadol. Each point is the mean ± SEM of six animals. % MPE = antinociception represented as a percentage of maximum possible effect.
ED values, in mg/kg ± SEM, for the antinociceptive activity of intraperitoneal administration of fentanyl, methadone, morphine and tramadol without and with naltrexone (NTX) 1 mg/kg i.p., naltrindole (NTI) 2 mg/kg i.p. and nor-BNI 3 mg/kg i.p. in the writhing test of mice
