Abstract
BACKGROUND: Research that explores stigma in Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is limited. Productive cough, repeated lung infections, and periods of serious illness requiring hospitalizations are among common symptoms of CF. These symptoms may cause a negative perception by others. We developed a CF-specific Stigma Scale and tested its psychometric properties.Entities:

Figure 1Unstandardized regression coefficients for the relationship between CF symptoms and quality of life as mediated by stigma. The unstandardized regression coefficient between CF symptoms and quality of life, controlling for stigma is in parentheses. This analysis demonstrates that stigma is a significant mediator between reported CF symptoms and quality of life. *p < .01; **p < .001.
