Maduromycosis "allescheria boydii" septic arthritis of the knee: a case report.

R E McCall.

Abstract

Septic arthritis due to fungal agents is rare in temperate climates such as the United States, and maduromycosis due to AUescheria boydii is especially uncommon. Of the 21 previously reported cases, only two involved the knee j'oint. Reported here is a case of Allescheria hoyan infection of the left knee of a 5-yearold girl, with eventual successful cure by a combination of surgical synovectomy and amphotericin B chemotherapy.
