Our Scheduled Continuing Dental Education programme “Search for Research” conducted in association with “Indian Association of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics” held on 8th January 2014 at Sri Venkateswara Dental College & Hospitals had an overwhelming response.

The inauguration was presided over by Dr. L. Lakshmi Narayanan, Honarary General Secretary, Indian Association of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics and Principal, Thai Mookambigai Dental College. Our Prinicipal Dr. lodd Mahendra was also a part of the inauguration ceremony. We were honoured to have Dr. V. G. Sukumaran, Professor and head, Sree Balaji Dental College and Dr. Mahalakshmi, Professor and head SRM Dental College.

Following a formal commencement by lighting the lamp, we proceeded with the lectures.

Dr. Vinay Pitchika has completed his masters in epidemiology and is doing his doctorate in clinical research from the University Of Munich, Germany. He presented two lectures on the topics “Basic Biostatistics in Research” and “Application of SPSS software”.

Dr. Krithika Datta, Reader from the Dept of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Meenakshi Ammal Dental College was here amongst us to deliver a lecture on “Asking the Right Question”.

Dr. P. D Madan Kumar, Professor from the Department of Public dentistry of Ragas Dental College and Hospital delivered a lecture on “Importance of Sample Size”

Dr. Poorni S, faculty of our department was one among the speakers. She delivered a lecture on “Study Designs”.

About 200 delegates, postgraduates and undergraduate students from various colleges across Chennai attended this program. The motto of conducting this one day programme was to give an insight on the basic biostatistics and research methodology, to inspire young minds for research. Biostatistics was presented at its simplistic best and unraveled many doubts and questions. We were immensely pleased by the tremendous response and reverberating success of the programme.
