Sir,The recent report on discordant HIV couple is very interesting.[1] Ravikumarand Balakrishna reported on 35 couples and concluded that “inherent resistance to HIV in some individuals may be the reasons for the discordance.”[1] We would like to share the experience on the same thing in our settings. There are similar 5 couples in our settings, and husbands were positive in all cases. Of interest, all cases have regular sexual contact, which can support the findings by Ravikumarand Balakrishna.[1] What the contribution to these interesting couples is the topic for further discussion. There are many recent reports on the natural resistance to HIV virus attachment. The focus is usually on receptor and its biological pathway. Lund et al. reported on “a novel resistance mechanism to productive infection with R5 HIV-1 that potentially involves abnormal globotriaosylceramide catabolism.”[2] Ratcliff et al. recently mentioned for the CD4 binding site mutation as an important explanation for HIV-1 resistance.[3]
