[Achievements of tumor surgery in tumors of the pancreas].

E Bodner1.

Abstract

In a retrospective analysis of 274 cases of ductal pancreatic cancer (uniform resection technique, no total pancreatectomy de principe) the resection rate was 28.1%, the death rate following duodenopancreatectomy 5.8%, cumulative 5-year-survival rate 11% in resected patients compared to 2.6% in all patients. Although discouraging, these results are still superior to non-surgical treatment. Three of four long-term survivors (greater than 5a) died from recurrent cancer. The question arises whether pancreatic cancer is surgically curable at all?
