Abstract
Nursing presence, the "doing for" and "being with" patients, embodies the holistic work of the registered nurse. However, nursing presence is seldom reflected in hospital orientation curricula. Programs traditionally orient nurses to policies and psychomotor tasks but exclude emphasizing how to "be with" patients. This article describes how one Midwestern academic medical center incorporated both the art and science of nursing into orientation.Entities:
