Requirements of the pathologist to the endoscopist (biopsy sampling).

Christian Bussmann1.

Abstract

The diagnosis of eosinophilic esophagitis is based upon corresponding histological and clinical findings. To obtain a reliable diagnosis, the clinician should ideally submit four biopsies each of the proximal and distal esophagus, respectively. The biopsies should not only encompass the full thickness of the epithelium, but parts of the lamina propria as well. 2014 S. Karger AG, Basel.
