Abstract
Shoots ofQuercus ilex gain more efficient ability to become frosthardened in winter during the course of ageing. The greatest increase in frosthardiness occurs within the first five winters. Full capacity for frost-resistance is not reached until the plant enters its reproductive phase. Roots do not change their resistance pattern with age.Entities:
