Fluctuations in leaf water balance, with a period of 1 to 10 minutes.

D W Sheriff1, R Sinclair.

Abstract

Water uptake into leaves, and water vapour efflux from leaves, were found to show short-term fluctuations. The fluctuations were observed in a number of parameters of leaf water metabolism. It is suggested that this behaviour is a result of time lags in the transmission of changes in water potential through the leaf.
