Metabolism of [2-(14)C] acetate to amino acids and proteins in segments of bean seedling roots.

M W Fowler1.

Abstract

(14)C from [2-(14)C] acetate was found to be incorporated into soluble and protein amino acids in substantial amounts by bean root apices. The (14)C was spread through a wide range of amino acids in both these fractions. Glutamic acid was found to be heavily labelled with (14)C in both soluble and protein amino acid fractions. The data are discussed in relation to present ideas on transport and utilization of amino acids in root systems.
