Abstract
The ethnic/minority psychiatric inpatient units (i.e., focus units) at the University of California, San Francisco, train residents in transcultural psychiatry. This article describes the history, goals, and educational program that comprise this unique training experience. Two cases from the Asian Focus Unit illustrate how residents learn trans-cultural psychiatry during interactions with ethnic Asian patients and staff.
