Abstract
BACKGROUND: Early-pregnancy short sleep duration is predictive of gestational diabetes and preeclampsia; mechanisms for these associations are unknown. Leptin, an adipocyte-derived peptide involved in regulating food intake and energy expenditure, may play a role in these observed associations. Given inconsistent reports linking short sleep duration with leptin, and absence of studies among pregnant women, we examined the association of maternal sleep duration with plasma leptin in early pregnancy.Entities:

Separate models were fit for all, lean (BMI <25 kg/m2), and overweight BMI ≥25 kg/m2) women, respectively.
Model 1: reported coefficients adjusted for maternal age, race/ethnicity, and marital status; and Model 2: Model 1 + maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index.
β, Estimated coefficient; SE (β), Standard error of the estimated coefficient; 95% CI, 95% confidence interval.
