Abstract
Wound healing involves inflammation as well as repair of injured tissue. A variety of soluble mediators is involved in the regulation of the different phases of wound healing. Recently it has been shown that in addition to inflammatory cells, keratinocytes are able to produce distinct immunomodulating cytokines. Injurious stimuli significantly enhance mediator production and enable keratinocytes to activate various inflammatory cells such as granulocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, natural killer cells and fibroblasts. Thus, cytokines released by keratinocytes may play an important regulatory role in inflammation, as well as within the framework of repair of damaged tissue.Entities:
