Binovular complexes after ovarian stimulation. A report of four cases.

B Turkalj1, L Kotanidis2, N Nikolettos2.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Human ovary is known to contain polyovular follicles at birth but it is considered to be rare in adult ovaries. CASES: Four cases are presented where binovular complexes were found after ovarian stimulation. The age of women was 22 to 33 years and all of them had a good response to ovarian stimulation. Two different types of binovular complexes were found. The mature oocytes of three binovular complexes were fertilized by ICSI. The generated embryos did not develop beyond the eight-cell stage.
CONCLUSION: The mature oocytes of binovular complexes can be fertilized but their developmental potential is limited.
