Figure 1Age at first sex among 261 Barbadian females aged 15–19. The distribution of age at first sex was generated from censored observations by survival analysis. The input data were age of the respondent, whether or not they ever had sex and if applicable recalled age at first sex. In calculating a survival function describing the probability of remaining a virgin, reported age at first sex is the ‘death’ event and those who never had intercourse are censored at their current age.
