Jumping off the work experience bandwagon.

L D Steinberg1.

Abstract

This paper summarizes and reviews the literature on the impact of work experience during the adolescent years. Research in three areas is reviewed: work experience through career education programs; work experience through youth employment and training programs; and work experience through part-time employment. In general, the findings in all three areas indicate that the benefits of working to education, socialization, and subsequent employment have been greatly overestimated.
