Abstract
State-of-the-art techniques attempt to select sperm with the best functional capacity to produce pregnancy and, subsequently, healthy offspring. A variety of approaches are now being evaluated. Future approaches may allow for selection of sperm based on sperm DNA integrity, degree of aneuploidy, or apoptosis. Other approaches involve attempting to improve the in vitro function of sperm with exposure to compounds such as pentoxifylline or platelet activating factor. In the future, we are likely to see significant improvements in the ability to select the best sperm for assisted-reproductive-technology procedures and the use of these procedures in routine clinical practice.Entities:
