Kinetics of phosphorus absorption byCorynebacterium bovis.

M Chen1.

Abstract

The initial rate of phosphorus uptake by phosphorus-limited cells ofCorynebacterium bovis grown in batch culture and in a chemostat was measured with [(32)P] orthophosphate. It was dependent on the external phosphorus concentration and was inversely related to the amount of intracellular phosphorus. The relationship between the initial rate of uptake, intracellular phosphorus, and phosphorus concentration in the medium can be expressed in terms of Haldane's modification of the Michaelis-Menten equation.
