Subcutaneous mastectomy with immediate reconstruction and maximal vascular protection.

R Meyer1, U K Kesselring.

Abstract

A combined reconstructive-reductive procedure after glandular resection in the breast has proved to be a highly practical and successful approach for subcutaneous mastectomy. A prosthesis may also be inserted at the time of the initial operation. The method requires that the incision be small, to protect blood supply, that there be a double-layer covering for the prosthesis, and that an L-shaped suture line be used for good aesthetic results.
