Abstract
The symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) significantly impair daily functioning. Symptoms occur in the late luteal phase. There must be a symptom-free interval between the end of menstruation and the time of ovulation. A two-month daily rating of symptoms is required for the diagnosis. The etiology is not well-known. Premenstrual disorders do not occur in anovulatory states. Hormonal therapy suppressing ovulation and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are effective treatments. PMS and PMDD can be successfully managed in general practice.Entities:
