Abstract
In order to appropriately allocate the precious resource of donor organs for cardiac transplantation, one must adequately assess the prognosis of the prospective recipient with or without transplantation. This requires knowledge of the natural history of heart failure as well as those parameters by which it is evaluated. It also requires knowledge of those factors that make patients appropriate versus inappropriate surgical candidates. This article approaches both these necessary areas of patient evaluation.Entities:
