Abstract
A range of cytokines have been suggested as intermediaries which may have effects on cellular metabolism and proliferation. Interleukin 1 has been most intensively studied and has multiple biological activities, however other polypeptides may also have significant effects on cartilage. A greater understanding of the biochemical mechanisms involved in the development and progression of osteoarthritis (OA) may lead to a rational approach to therapeutic management.Entities:
