Abstract
Induced circulatory arrest is a technique used to provide a period of operative stability in a variety of surgical procedures that might otherwise be technically unfeasible. The use of hypothermia and barbiturates for protection against cerebral ischaemia during circulatory arrest is reviewed against a background of the pathophysiology of cerebral ischaemia and possible future therapies are also suggested.Entities:
