Glass ionomer as a luting material.

G J Christensen1.

Abstract

Glass ionomer cements have been accepted by many practitioners as reliable luting materials. However, some dentists have condemned them because of frequent postoperative tooth sensitivity and difficult working characteristics. Reasons for apparent erratic postoperative behavior of glass ionomer luting agents are discussed. Comparisons with other commonly used cements are made, and a suggested clinical cementation procedure is described.
