Periodontal findings before and after orthodontic therapy in cases of incisor cross-bite.

D Eismann1, R Prusas.

Abstract

Maloccluding incisors are subject to over-loading in chewing which adversely affects the health of the periodontal tissues. Following orthodontic treatment the effect of the masticatory forces is normalized. This results in the recovery of these tissues as demonstrated by evaluation of clinical findings before and one year after treatment. The results emphasize the necessity for and effectiveness of orthodontic treatment.
