Pediatric oral formulations: a continual challenge.

Josephine Hurtado1.

Abstract

Lack of reliable information and lack of standards are two of the biggest obstacles in compounding medications for children. Yet because few medications are available commercially in liquid forms appropriate for children, drug compounding is essential for these patients. Drug compounding plays an important role in ensuring that children receive the medications they need. Compounding pharmacists must be vigilant to ensure that the medications they prepare for children are based on reliable formulations that use appropriate excipients and are consistent in strength and stability.
