Customized knee arthroplasty and the role of preoperative imaging.

Mary I O'Connor1, Mark J Kransdorf.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this article is to review advances in customized knee arthroplasty, highlighting advances in the use of preoperative imaging for component placement and design.
CONCLUSION: Total knee arthroplasty is a highly successful surgical procedure. Although implant survivorship is generally excellent, failures do occur, and suboptimal component positioning is an important factor in implant failure. Surgical advances have focused on the use of advanced imaging and associated computer-assisted navigation to optimize component positioning.
