Stimulus control techniques for sleep onset insomnia.

A Childs-Clarke.

Abstract

Sleep onset insomnia is a common complaint in patients and in the population as a whole. With the increasing reluctance to prescribe hypnotics as a solution there is a need for alternatives to drugs. In this paper the outcome of 15 outpatients with insomnia treated with stimulus control techniques is reported. The potential for nurses using these procedures is discussed.
