Tips and tricks for stenting the inferior vena cava.

Haraldur Bjarnason1.

Abstract

Chronic occlusion of the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) can go unnoticed because of the remarkable compensatory mechanism of the human body. On the other hand, IVC occlusion can have a significant and debilitating effect on an individual's ability to live a normal lifestyle and be an active and productive member of society. With the introduction of endovascular technology, new treatment options have opened for patients with this condition. This article describes the technical aspects of IVC recanalization and briefly discusses follow-up care and limited reports on outcomes from the procedure.
